Connections 2.5 Preview - Stream of News in the Home Page & Subscriptions

    Suzanne O Minassian  January 21 2009 06:20:40 PM
The Home Page has become aggregation central and provides you access to Lotus Connections updates in one stream. The main stream includes what’s happening in and outside your network, but you can also filter this stream in a number of ways.

Recent Updates.  Updates includes feeds of everything you are interested in, which we determine based on a number of things. Each of these elements that make up your updates can be filtered using the additional tabs in the home page as well, so you can see a list of only those items.
    ·        What you’ve commented on or downloaded, meaning if there are new comments or updates, you will see it in your Updates
    ·        People in your colleague network, meaning if anyone in your network updates or adds information, you will see it in your Updates
    ·        People and tags you subscribe to. If you use Dogear, you may have enjoyed the watchlist feature which allows you to subscribe to people and tags. You will be able to do this with Connections 2.5 as well, giving you a place to collect up all the new posts from your subscriptions.
    ·        Notifications you’ve received. Many of the Connections services allow you to notify other people of content they might be interested in (i.e. Here’s a blog entry you should read, here’s a Dogear bookmark you might like, please check out this Activity, etc.). While your notifications can be sent in email, you can keep track of them in the notifications tab of your home page as well.
    ·        Status Updates from your Network. Another filter on your stream of news is to look at only your network’s status updates.

The global search has also been updated to include content from the new services we’re introducing in 2.5 as well!

[I need to make a disclaimer here that anything shared in these blog entries is undergoing development and is subject to change! Do not consider these designs final in any way. They are current as of today but they may change. Also capabilities are always subject to change as well. I’ll be repeating this disclaimer over and over again. Sorry!]
